2 acrylic paintings on sized textile
Created as part of the project Practices of Recognition at the Mala Gallery of Mystetskyi Arsenal, Kyiv, where participants engaged in a dialogue with the exhibition Defloration, Lviv, 1990.
The psychology and physicality of transformation — where will and freedom are embodied in the butterfly breaking free from its cocoon. Through acts of will, citizens tear themselves from one historical period into another, again and again shedding one shell only to confront the next.
The diptych echoes Sylvestrov’s glitter-framed portraits, first exhibited in Defloration, 1990.
