Yeva Kafidova

Kafidova obtained a BA from the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture (NAOMA, Kyiv) in 2022. She is an artist, researcher, and questioner.
At the core of her artistic vision lie two central ideas: “everything passes” and “everything will be fine again, and then bad again.” Observation through this lens shapes both the materials she works with and the concepts she explores. She is drawn to fragile, unstable substances—materials that resist control and can be easily ruined—as a way to mirror the vulnerability and unpredictability of both memory and life itself. Her practice includes works on paper using various techniques (monotypes, diatypes, gelatin printing), as well as painting, ceramics, and metalwork.
She often returns to the subject of her home in Nova Kakhovka as a way of reinventing herself—both personally and politically. She explores the bodily imprints of remembering, such as hair loss and muscle memory, as well as how the perception of one’s homeland shifts when it becomes occupied territory. Through myth, she investigates the blurred line between death and non-death, seeking to soften the fear of death—a presence she senses all around.
In 2022, she launched a Telegram channel, Kafidova in the Artland, where she writes about contemporary art in Ukraine and beyond.

Кафідова здобула ступінь бакалавра в Національній академії образотворчого мистецтва і архітектури (НАОМА, Київ) у 2022 році. Вона — художниця, дослідниця й людина, яка ставить запитання.
Її мистецьку практику формують дві ключові ідеї: «все минає» та «все знову буде добре, а потім знову погано». Спостереження крізь цю призму визначає як вибір матеріалів, з якими вона працює, так і концепції її робіт. Її приваблюють крихкі, нестабільні матеріали, які складно контролювати й легко зруйнувати; вони відображають вразливість і непередбачуваність пам’яті та самого людського життя. Це включає роботи на папері з використанням різних технік (монотипії, діатипії, желатиновий друк), а також живопис на негрунтованих полотнах, кераміку й метал.
Вона часто повертається до теми свого дому в Новій Каховці як способу дослідження людини — як особистісного, так і політичного: як змінюється сприйняття рідного місця, коли воно стає окупованою територією, і ким стає той, хто там народився і виріс; як трансформується памʼять від отримання нових знань про нібито добре відоме. Її цікавлять тілесні прояви пам’яті, такі як випадіння волосся чи м’язова пам’ять, шерехатість світу навколо — буквально й метафорично. Через міф вона досліджує розмиту межу між смертю і несмертю, прагнучи пом’якшити страх смерті, присутність якої відчуває повсюди.
У 2022 році вона створила Telegram-канал Kafidova in the Artland, де пише про сучасне мистецтво в Україні та за її межами.
Живе та працює в Києві.
